Miniature ball bearings are one of the most commonly used bearings within many different industries. Metal shielded type miniature bearings are manufactured with metal shields which are inserted into the outer raceway and fit in closely to the inner race. The shields are designed to provide protection against the ingress of moisture, dust and other foreign matter and also serve to retain the pre-filled grease in the bearing. Shields can be removed for applications where only 1 shield is required.
Flanged miniature ball bearings have a solid steel flange on the outer ring. This allows the bearing to be easily located in a housing. The flange helps to prevent axial movement of the bearing in the event of it being subject to thrust load. It is easier to maintain the position of a flanged bearing in the housing where a lot of vibration is present.
